Question : Problem: DS4300 Controller Woes

I am running two blade chasis attached to a DS4300 all my Luns are pointing to on Controller and I know best practice is to distribute your luns between the two controllers, but when I go to System Manager>advanced>recovery>the option for redistribute logical drives is greyed out.

Answer : Problem: DS4300 Controller Woes

Is this a new install, or was it working at some point?

There are three main things to check.

First, do you have your multipath driver installed and functioning?

Second, do you have a working path from your Blade Chassis to your DS4300?  I'm assuming you have two fibre switch modules in the Blade.  Please update with more info about your config if that is wrong.  The issue could be coming from a broken or dislodged cable or SFP between the switch module and the DS4300.

Assuming you are on Windows, check in Device Manager to see if each Lun shows up twice under the "SCSI" section.  If it doesn't show up twice I'd suspect a path problem from the first and second things I just mentioned.

Third, you could have a communications problem between the DS4300 controller and the drives.  Is this a single chassis, or do you have additional storage in the way of EXP710 or EXP810 expansion units?  Storage Manager will not let you redistribute your luns if the controller cannot talk to the disks that contain those luns.

What does the "recovery guru" in Storage Manager tell you?
