Question : Problem: IBM Aptiva S-series Media console on another computer?
|
|
My friend has an old IBM Aptiva S-series P200 minitower with a media console. It holds the floppy and CD-ROM drives and lets the tower be out of the way. The card that connects it to the tower is an ISA card. Has anyone ever tried to put that card in another computer and use it the same way? I just built a PII 450 for them and they would like to know if they could keep the media console. The new computer is a Dell Optiplex GX1 PII/PIII with BIOS v. A07.
Here are the specs: PII 450/512/100/2.0v 128mb PC-100 SDRAM 168-pin Zoltrix 56k V.90 Modem PCI (having problems with com ports) Onboard USB, Video, Audio, Ethernet (DELL OEM) 13.6gb HDD Western Digital Caviar 136A 3.5" 1.44 Floppy (DELL OEM) 16x CD-ROM (DELL OEM) 2 PCI 2 ISA
Thanks,
traigo

I don't have one of those, but since PCI cards for IDE controllers exist, I would guess an ISA card could do the same for a floppy and cdrom. Why don't you borrow the card and media console and install it in the new machine to see if it will work? There is nothing like a real-world test to prove that something works.
