Question : Problem: dell c610 laptop infrared connection to nokia 6310i windows 2000 pro
infrared on laptop does not recognise phone. there is a code ten device error in device manager that says the ir hardware is not working properly. i have tried updating drivers from MS as i believe the pc requires msircomm.sys file to run dell ir port. i have this now but i still have no pc ir port working properly. also configuration errors, windows cannot detect the resource settings for the hardware when i try to reinstall it. i have heard that the bios settings can be changed but i would not know where to start here, to put the pc ir to a com 3 port.
any ideas?

You're on the right track. First, remove the IR device completely from the Device Manager (right click and then choose Uninstall), then reboot, and enter the BIOS setup. Change the COM port that is assigned to the IR, and reboot the notebook. Let Windows re-install the IR drivers. To enter the BIOS setup, press the F2 key during the power-on self test (memory count) before it starts to load Windows. Then you can go through the menus to find the setting for the IR COM port.
