Question : Problem: Video Surveillance System

I need video surveillance capabilities. Either integrated with the PC, or a self contained system apart from the computer; whichever is more practicable and / or economical.

The requirements are -

3 cameras (with the possibility to add a 4th.) Color is not required, but the picture quality should be sufficient to distinguish human facial features from a distance of 50 feet or greater. The cameras should be suitable for outdoor locations (or inside at a window perhaps) and be somewhat indistinct. The ambient light in the area at night is low, but I can augment with standard lighting if need be. Audio pick up would be helpful. A wireless system is not required, but would be acceptable.

A motion detector to trigger the recording of events for a pre-determined length of time would be fine. A date / time stamp overlaid on the image is helpful, but may not be essential.

This will be a basic home security video surveillance system, to monitor activity 24/7 at the front and back doors of a residence, and 1 other nearby location in the home.

It should record all activity on some media for later review and maintain a record of at least the past 72 hours.

I found these items on ebay (though auction is over).

The price is attractive, but I'm uncertain if these will be suitable. My main concern is you MUST be able to identify a face.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
