Question : Problem: How to use DVD player independent of PC?

I have sony DVD player which I currently use with PC. I want to use this DVD player independent of PC . I mean can I use the same DVD player by giving it the power suppy with external audio amplifier? Or do I need to add some other other hardware to do that?
