Question : Problem: 1680 x 1050 Resolution (in)compatibility with Dell D630

I have a Dell D630 for work and yesterday purchased a TFT monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 2232BW) for use in my home office which can also be used on my home PC.  The problem it seems is that the D630 does not support horizontal resolutions >1440 pixels so I cannot support the native resolution of the monitor (1680 x 1050).  Works fine on home PC.

I was thinking that as long as the D630 could run at 1440 x 9000 or even 1280 x 800 it would work fine however it does not:  the d630 only gives the option for 1440 x 900 when it's own screen is operating i.e. lid open and even then the screen on the 2232BW is not correct (regardless of whether I enable black borders or not).  1280 x 800 is not even an option.

I am currenlty running 1400 x 1050 but details are not crisp and lack definition which is hurting my eyes.

Is there some software/driver that can overdie the settings of the graphics card (Intel Mobile 965) ?
Thank you for any advice.

FYI: The d630 has latest graphics and monitor drivers and latest bios.

I cannot belive that I hadn't tried this:  set resolution to 1680 x 1050 and then used the monitors auto adjust feature.  All solved!

Thank you guys for all your help and I will split point if that is okay with you.

Have a good evening
