Question : Problem: Is there a standard Network Color Scheme???
|
|
Hello experts,
I am making a diagram of my office-network and was wondering if there is such a thing as a color standard. Does Cisco or CompTIA have a best practices as far as color-coding goes?
I want to color code;
1. Different speed ethernet cables(10/100/1000) 2. Active/dead drops 3. First and Second floor cables 4. Cat 5/Cat 6 cables
Is there an industry standard? I tried to google this and didn't find anything.
Thanks

About the only regularity you will find is the use of a red cable for crossover cabling, although this is fading into antiquity with autosensing ports.
Looser regularities would be white cabling for structured cable (vertical or horizontal) with blue for patching.
As pointed out, most of us use a scheme that most eases management of our environment. The coloring needs to have meaning with continuity.
What I do -
Red for crossover and trunks Orange for server uplinks Blue for node to wall patches Yellow for closet patching to switch White for infrastructure Green for special interest cable - (WAPs, etc.)
Hope it helps
Cheers
