Question : Problem: Replace 256mb ECC 2100 RAM with 1GB ECC 3200 or 1GB ECC registered 2100

HI,

I want to upgrade the RAM on my Iomega NAS 300m. It currently has only 256mb, but it needs more.
I want to give it 1GB, however I am having trouble getting my hands on compatible RAM.
The RAM inside at the moment is Nanya, 256mb ECC product code NT256D64S88B0G-75B.

As I cannot find 1GB 2100 ECC non-reg, I am wondering if can I put in either 1GB 3200 ECC non-reg or 1GB 2100 ECC reg in it? These are the two I can get my hands on easily.

Thanks
Mark

"... The RAM inside at the moment is Nanya, 256mb ECC product code NT256D64S88B0G-75B ..." ==>  That product code is for a 256MB, unbuffered, PC2100 non-ECC module.   Why do you think it's an ECC module?

In any event, you CANNOT install a buffered (registered) module in a device designed for unbuffered RAM.   You CAN install a 1GB unbuffered PC3200, non-ECC module in the device ... or, if you're SURE the current module is an ECC module (the part # does not indicate that it is) or that the NAS supports ECC modules (look in the documentation), then you could install a 1GB unbuffered ECC module.

TheCapedPlodder --> Not sure why you think this is a laptop ... it clearly is not !! :-)
