Question : Problem: Ramifications of having 2 seperate gateways on the same switch

Scenario - Lan sitting on a switch.  Multiple workstations and servers.  All of them (except 1 Terminal server) have as their gateway a firewall appliance (call it Firewall A) at ip 192.168.0.1 connected to a DSL connection.  The terminal server has as its Gateway, a different firewall appliance (call it Firewall B) at ip 192.168.0.2 connected to its own 2nd DSL connection.

Is this ok?
What are the ramifications of having multiple gateways on the same LAN?  Pros / Cons?

Answer : Problem: Ramifications of having 2 seperate gateways on the same switch

if it was a layer 3 switch where it does routing internally, it may need special configuration, just for it to work.
But if its a layer 2 switch, should make little difference to the reliability, or efficiency of the switch.
Since a layer 2 switch only repeats data to the destination port, it effectively blocks the traffic to any other port anyway.

Only if your switch is subject to ARP poisoning could this be a problem, but most now-a-days are not.

Ensure if there are loops in your switches, Spanning Tree Protocol should be enabled..
