Question : Problem: How do I configure a network printer connected directly to a PC via Ethernet?

How do I configure a network printer connected directly to a PC via Ethernet?

The computer is running Windows XP Pro.  The computer has two NIC cards.  One NIC card is configured for the Internet.  The second NIC card is connected to the printer and has the following configuration:

     IP:  192.168.11.12
     Subnet:  255.255.255.0
     Gateway:
     DNS:

The printer is an HP DesignJet 650c Plotter.  It has the following configuration:

     IP: 192.168.11.12
     Subject: 255.255.255.0
     Gateway:

When I try to add the printer, as a local printer with a standard TCP/IP port, it does not recognize the printer.

What am I doing wrong?  Many thanks in advance.

You need to assign the printer a unique IP (e.g. 192.168.11.13).  The duplication is making it impossible for the port to be recognized.  Do the same steps once you get the IP fixed and it should work then.  Let me know if you have a problem or a question.
