Question : Problem: Totally dead laptop
Good day,
I have a D600 laptop that is totally dead. I have swapped out a known good power button module and that was not the problem. I have a good power brick. A good fully charged battery. I tried checking power coming into the back of the power port with my multi meter and got 20 volts there and a couple of sparks. Ouch! Does this sound like the motherboard? Is there anything else I can possibly check? I appreciate any and all answers.

They found the same laptop on ebay......I would just do a search for D600's on ebay and go from there. I will say it's a bit risky as you don't know all what works in there. For my friends laptop, I needed the display. The motherboard in that one that they purchased was shot. But if they have a working one on there that is cheap. You should just be able to slap your hard drive and memory in the one that you buy on there and be good to go.
