Question : Problem: Need to reset ROMMON on a Cisco 837

Hi all,

we have a small 837 that had all files/memories erased by its previous owner
and while trying to recover it they uploaded the wrong ROMMON file. (I think it was a 827 ROMMON) Now
when restarting it says it is an unkown device with 4MB of memory while we know it has
8MB... (this does not allow us to upload the correct image on it either as it thinks it is too big for it!)

I have done my RTFM and STFW already so this is a genuine query.

Any pointers will be appreciated!

G.

PS.

When I do xmodem -r ...  to load straight to DRAM , after I send from the terminal application it thinks about it and comes back with: ERR: File not a valid executable.

The file is the approved .bin image from the CCO site.

Answer : Problem: Need to reset ROMMON on a Cisco 837

You will need to send it back to the factory to get it fixed. Once you upgrade the rommon, you lost command and control access if the install was hosed up.
