Question : Problem: Stopping SQL Services, Required?

We use Backup Exec 10d to backup all our servers. We have the SQL Agent installed which runs a full verifiy including indexes of all our SQL databases.

I have been asked by one contractor to run pre and post commands on one of the sql database, basically to stop the SQL service, back it up, then start the SQL service.

But if we are using the SQL agent for Backup Exec is this really required? If so, should we be doing it on all our SQL databases?

Thanks.

Answer : Problem: Stopping SQL Services, Required?

I can't think of one....I can't imagine that you should ever have to stop the services to backup the databases.
