Question : Problem: WM5 Email contains invalid character set using MotoQ

This is a difficult problem to explain but I will do my best...

When an email is sent using only WM5 MotoQ devices to an internal user (could be happening to outside users but we cannot verify that) the GFI MailEssentials Spam Filter recognizes the email as SPAM (Header Checking) and logs the entry as Character set not allowed (n/a).  That email is filtered as SPAM and is not delivered to the intended recipient.  The GFI Anti Spam software is configurable with many different options.  One of options deals with Header Checking.  In that option there is a setting for Language.  We have set that setting to allow only Western European character set.  If we allow all characters sets, then users in our domain are inundated with spam email.  So, turning off that filter is not an option.

If the sending users email address  is added to the GFI whitelist, then that email account experiences spam email that appears to be sent from that email account to that same email account (phenomenon has nothing to do with the Q per se).  So, whitelisting helps the situation but it still allows those certain spam emails thru and those seem to be increasing in number.

We have about 15 Windows Mobile devices within our organization.  About 5 of those are MotoQ WM5's and all of them experience the same issue.  There are 2 MotoQ WM6 devices that do not experience the problem and the rest are a mixture of WM5 (PPC's and Smartphone's) and WM6 (Standard and Professional) and none of them are experiencing the issue.

Contacted Motorola and they don't seem to understand the issue (don't blame them, it is difficult to understand).  So, I thought I would try Experts Exchange.

Answer : Problem: WM5 Email contains invalid character set using MotoQ

They must format the mail slightly differently but they are certenly not using a foreign character set and if GFI is thinking they are then that is wrong.
