Question : Problem: Think Pad locked

I loaned out one of our training laptops. IBM thinkpad 390E, 2626-EOU. Upon return, it will not boot. OS is 98 2nd. Have tried F1 for bios- no boot, no bios screen. F5, also F8, no boot. After IBM intro screen instead of booting all I get is a black screen with a monitor and lock symbol in the upper left hand corner of screen. I have removed battery, also HD, then reinserted, to no avail. Will try a boot disc next. What do the symbols mean? Also, I get no beep codes. Will also try hooking to a monitor. Help. It is old and wont be to big of a loss, but for training it is handy. Thanks, Martinpicker

Answer : Problem: Think Pad locked

It sounds like this is one of the IBM's that is tamper proof and someone tried to get into the BIOS or hard drive with a bad password. Only IBM certified repair stations can reset the access.
