Question : Problem: MOBO supports 2GB RAM,Sony says can't have more than 512MB RAM.

I have a Sony PCV-RX560 with 512 MB installed SDRAM. I want more, but Sony claims that's all the computer supports. E-mailed them and asked why and how I can work around that. Their very unhelpful reply was, "It's not recommended". I already knew that, but my MOBO is an ASUS P4B-LX and ASUS says it supports 2GB. I have flashed the BIOS so it would support two HDDs totaling 240 GB. My current RAM is in two 256 MB sticks and I want to replace them with two 1GB sticks. My question is, what will likely happen if I do that? I can provide whatever technical info Everest Home Editon can give me.

Your data on the drive will be safe so no reinstalling & unless you are careless with placing the RAM there would be no lasting effect from trying, you just switch back to the 256 DIMMs if it doesn't work.
