Question : Problem: Sound card Realtek AC97 not working in Opensuse 10.3

Hi,
I have just installed Opensuse 10.3 and am a very new linux user. All my other hardware devices seem to be working fine except my sound card. I also think that by mistake I have uninstalled the sound card drivers through the terminal window as I was following instructions from some other website.

When I go to YaST>Hardware>Sound>Other>Volume, earlier it used to show a volume bar there where I could move the slider and adjust the volume. However that slider does not appear anymore. Also, when I go to the KMENU > MULTIMEDIA > VOLUME CONTROL > Sound mixer (kmix), nothing happens.

Also, when I go to YaST>Hardware>Sound, it shows one card installed with index as 0 and card model as 82801 DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 audio controller.

Please let me know how I can install the sound card drivers for the same.

Answer : Problem: Sound card Realtek AC97 not working in Opensuse 10.3

I suspect of hardware failure. Can you hear anything with another OS?

If yes, the last advice is to reinstall openSUSE.
