Question : Problem: Software/Hardware for Backup of Small Business
|
|
Im looking for any suggestions on a backup solution for a Windows 2003 SBS Server running Exchange and SQL and basic data backup, that is somewhat cost effective for a small business (1 server and 5 workstations).
Something not terribly complicated, but that will backup/restore the necessarry OS files (Sysytem State) and the data. They have about 7 gigs of data on a daily basis and growing quite slowly.
What software and hardware have you found to be very effective? External Disks. Tape,..?
Would I be able to use any software on any tyoe of hardware? For example I was looking at the CA software below for SBS. Could I run this to any hardware storage device? http://store.ca.com/dr/v2/ec_Main.Entry17c?V1=740185&PID=740185&PN=1&SP=10023&SID=40705&CUR=840&CID=190532&DSP=&PGRP=0&ABCODE=&CACHE_ID=190532

SBS has a very good backup program already built in. It knows how to handle Exhchange and SQL. Use external USB hard drives, 300gb or so and have the user swap them on a daily or weekly basis and store the other one in a safe or offsite. It backups up quickly, the media is cheap and is reliable.
Tapes are a thing of the past and online backups can tax the bandwidth and possibly take a long time.
With the monitoring tools you get notified if there are problems. You can also do the following to be notified if the backup is sucessful :
