Question : Problem: gigabyte motherboard GA-K8NXP-SLI slow
|
|
Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI is performing badly. specs are cpu amd 64 x 2 4200+ 4 x crucial pc3200 512mb ddr memory sticks in dual channel mode (possible problem here) core 200Mhz 2.2 Mhz Nothing overclocked
Geforce 7950 GT 512MB PCI-e graphics card
Western digital WD20 200 GB SATA drive using gigabyte driver, OS win xp on here sp2 clean install two ide hard drives on ide channel
Not sure which bios is flashed, booting shows F11 but CPU-z shows F6
So I am not sure whats going on it gets a pcmark score of 1000 which is poor for such an expensive motherboard. I thought the sata drive would speed things up. raid function is off. is it possible this MB suffers in this mode ie single sata drive raid off.
I am not certain of the maths on the dual channel memory having 4 sticks of 512 maybe i should take dual channel off or remove two.
help would be much appreciated as MS flight sim is appaling on this pc and it wasnt a cheap setup.
the Nforce4 drivers are all up to date as are the graphics nforce drivers regards

Answer : Problem: gigabyte motherboard GA-K8NXP-SLI slow

There are issues with ram speed slowing to 333mhz rather than run at 400mhz when 4 sticks of ram are used. What speed is shown on post for the ram, or in the BIOS. There may be some compatibility problems with certain games. Gigabyte has a download for a utility that allows you to disable PMC function on the CPU that supposedly helps. http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/FAQ_Model.aspx?FAQID=1750&ProductID=1859&ClassValue=Motherboard
