Question : Problem: How to check whether my system supports firewire 800?
|
|
Hi Folks,
Now I think I have a firewire card but how do I check whehter this is the case and whehter it supports firewire 800?
I dont have anydocumentation left from the card installed so I dont know for sure what it is. The ports are much like usb ports but just not quite the same.
Anyone know how to check this fast and furious? ;-)
Kind regards,
Dweeep
Ps any advice on my I_want_to_backup_a_whole_lotta_data- issue is welcome as well. Currently I have an extern WD harddisk of 500 GB of which I want to back up data nearly all that is. Therefore I'm considering to buy another external harddisk and if Firewire datatransfer is better than that of USB 2.0 Firewire seems the better option. Lately I have lost several harddisks but I cannot lose the data from the 500 GB and want to back it up at all costs.....thanks in advance :-)

As I posted in your previous question, Firewire800 has a different connector than Firewire400. Look at http://8help.osu.edu/1249.html - does the connector have a rectangular shape (Firewire800) or a rectangle with an angle on one end (Firewire400) or a much smaller rectangle (Firewire400)? Also check the pin count - is it 9 or 6 or 4? In device manager, Firewire will show up as IEEE 1394 bus host controllers, as opposed to USB host controller.
