Question : Problem: Disabled USB Enhanced on Dell 3100 with no PS2 - now unable to re-enable. Is there a way of enabling?

Hi,

I've got a machine where the USB enhanced controller has been disabled, meaning nothing works. It's a Dell Dimension 3100 so there are no PS2 ports. Therefore, I can't get into it to do anything as keyboard/mouse both USB...

I need to somehow re-enable this device. I've tried LKGC, Safe Mode etc without any luck. I've tried repair install of Windows, but it doesn't allow use of kb/mouse in this either... The keyboard works fine during POST - I can get into BIOS but as soon as it starts loading Windows, it fails. During Windows setup it is fine until it restarts after copying files and then at the GUI it loses it.

I have access to the hard drive by plugging it into another PC only. Is there any way I can enable this again? Really desperate as I don't want to format the PC as it's got a load of little software programs on that are a nightmare to sort.

Thanks,
Adam

b0lsc0tt - yes. Checked that first.

nobus - no PS2 ports!

Anyway, it's working now as a I posted a bit later on yesterday... Repaired Windows and now re-enabled the disabled USB enhanced controller - on-board USB now works :)

Bit of a pain - if there was PS2 ports it'd have took 2 minutes to sort out.
