Can someone explain LCD Contrast Ratio to me?

It's the ratio of the LCD pixel ON brightness to its OFF brightness.  Higher is better since you get greater contrast.

Go to a retail store that sells a variety of LCD displays or LCD TVs.  Compare the display of one with a higher contrast ratio to one with a lower one.  You'll see the difference.  The colors are more vivid and everything looks sharper.
