Question : Problem: Can Processor damage a motherboard?

I bought an ASUS P2B motherboard(440BX), and a PII/350 processor. After putting everything together, I got display for few minutes and the system dead!. I took it to the Asus vendor, and to my surprise, he says my CPU is remarked, and it damaged the motherboard. I cannot believe this, and  am still puzzled how can a cpu damage a motherboard?

Answer : Problem: Can Processor damage a motherboard?

Remarked? The CPU if damaged to begin with can very well damage a motherboard....say if there is a short,or a wrong voltage setting. If you just bought it...don't sweat it...its still under warranty. Most hardware if its going to die will die within the first 72 hours of "burn in" operation.
