Question : Problem: Problems printing to a local USB printer via the Citrix Desktop

The setup is a WYSE S90 terminal running MS Windows XPE.  The terminal boots up and the windows session is automatically set to log in as a local user account.  Using Citrix Program Neighborhood 9.150 I setup a Citrix Desktop connection, which starts up automatically at Windows logon.

On the XPE side (with WriteFilter turned off) I set it up to print to the locally connected USB printer (a HP Laserjet 2300).  From XPE it works fine (no trouble printing).  From within the Citrix Desktop environment it is unreliable.

The printer shows up in Citrix as the local XPE printer and when it works it takes minutes (30 mins once) to print a document.  Sometimes it doesn't print out at all.  Rebooting the terminal sometimes gets it work, slowly, again.

Network printers are also automatically mapped for the Citrix session, and those work just fine.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.  This is an issue that might cause us to rethink deploying terminals to users and I want it work!

First off, don't use a PCL 6 driver (if you are), those can be flakey in a terminal server environment.  Is this printer doing any sort of a "power save"?  Make sure there isn't something like this set.  One thing you can try is using a more generic driver like a LJ 2000 Series PCL (the one that comes with the OS).  See if this helps.  If not you can always buy a NIC for the printer and map it via tcp/ip on the terminal server.
