Question : Problem: HP Solution Center problems

I have these HP all-in-one printers: Officejet 5510 and Officejet 6210. I cannot get either of them to scan.

How does one download and install program called HP Solution Center? Is there a way to install it without installing the huge (250+ MB) driver that includes this photo-imaging stuff?

I somehow got HP Solution Center installed by downloading the huge driver, but it would not load. After clicking on the shortcut, it would begin to load but would eventually say "No Hp product has been detected. Solution Center will now close"

I have uninstalled every HP program listed in Add/Remove Programs and am starting from scratch with one printer - OfficeJet 5510.

Any thoughts?
