Question : Problem: best solvent to cleam thermal paste pad/residue.
|
|
I bought a used dual 800 quicksilver g4 cpu. Is there a common household solvent that will do the trick of cleaning the processor's surface as well as the heat sink or do you have to buy a special kit for more monies. Also, just out of curiosity, does anyone have a link to the highest stable overclock on this card?

99% isopropal alcohol.
Have never seen it in any local drugstore, but can be acquired online. I bought a bottle years ago and still have some left for whenever I need to clean a cpu (or contacts for RAM, etc).
Some say 91% is okay (and more readily available -- i.e a drugstore might carry it), but the water content is higher and /could possibly/ damage the component because it doesn't dry as fast.
Sorry, can't help w/ the G4 overclocking.
