Question : Problem: apple aiport extreme 802.11n as a wireless access point in PC network
|
|
Hi,
I need to talk someone over the phone for setting up an apple aiport extreme 802.11n as a wirelss access point in a Windows network.
Therefore they will be connecting it up to a PC and configuring it from there. Does this work like other PC routers. Therefore if I conect it up to the PC, the router will then assign me an IP address, I will I be able to enter the aiports IP address into a webbrowser and configure it from there
(My intention is to disable the DHCP server on the device and use as wirless access point only)
Thanks

Yes, Mac has its own little gui interface utility called Airport Admin Utility. That is what you are looking for. I happened to be at the Apple store and their desk help confimed that this utility is not available on the Apple web site right now. They do not know why. I was right, 5.0 would have shipped on a cd with the router,"Windows users can use the installer CD that ships with the Base Station." If you have that cd, then get the 5.1 update and you are good to go. If you don't, then call your local apple store and see if they have a copy laying around you can burn. Once you/your friend gets the the cd and updates then maybe use an app like PC Anywhere and do it remotely for him/her. "This can be done, "Setting up the AirPort Extreme Base Station is a simple task. If you're using a compatible Mac system, simply connect the Base Station to your router via the WAN port using an Ethernet cable and power it up. In the Utilities folder, click on the AirPort setup utility to create a new wireless network and establish security settings. If you're using a PC to create a network or to join the newly created network, you'll first need to install the AirPort Utility from the included CD. Then navigate to the utility (Start > All Programs > AirPort) to enter the necessary information." Good luck.
