Question : Problem: Missing Nicknames in Eudora 3.01 & .2
|
|
I recently upgraded to Eudora light 3.0.1 from 1.5.4 and lo and behold all of my nicknames dissappeared. I tried to update to 3.0.2 but it did not bring them back. I put the old Eudora folder in the new folder and I can see the old "nickname" folder and the names but not from the "special" menu when I hit "nicknames"

Eudora Light uses the term "Address Book" for the entries that used to be "nicknames". If you go to that menu item under the "Special" menu and check there, you may find your old nicknames.
However, if you do not, then there is a strong chance that the old nicknames file has been overwritten, and unless there is a backup file, which I doubt, then you have probably lost them. You didn't copy the old Eudora folder to another place on your disk, or to another drive by any chance (as a backup)? If so, you can use any text editor to open that file ("nicknames") and you can manually reconstruct the file and cut and paste the elements into the new address book.
Norton's "Fast Find" will tell you if your old Nicknames file exists. You can read the text of any file called "nicknames" using it.
This doesn't guarantee you get your file back, but if it no longer exists, then nothing will, I'm afraid. This is the only advice anyone can give you.
Good luck!
