Question : Problem: Mouse doesn't work but pointing device works through remote desktop connection

I'm having with a desktop at home, it has two internal drives and sometimes won't boot up. The cause for not booting up is the computer gets mixed up on which drive to boot from, because the slave drive was originally the master drive.

So I got it up an running again - usually what I do is re-seat the drives, bang on the computer, and I can always get it to boot up.

The most recent time I got it to re-boot, the mouse wouldn't work at all. I have tried three different mice, all of them work, and in different USB ports.

When I put in the receiver to the USB, I hear a beep that new hardware was recognized. But the mouse won't work. However, if I remote desktop connection into the PC with another home desktop, then the mouse works through the remote desktop. Not sure what that means.

So the PC is having trouble, how can I "wake up" the pointing device?

Well, for the drive boot prob, all you should need to do is go into the BIOS and specify your boot order which should help the computer know what drive to boot from first.

Try using another mouse in the computer? Just because you can use a remote desktop connection and have the mouse work only means that the computer youur sitting at has a mouse that is working.

You cam also go into the device manager an click the menu option to show hidden devices and get rid of any old devices that might be causing a conflict.

Little bit confused on the mouse troubleshooting though so if you can give me more info, maybe I can be of more help.

Can you try a new mouse, or one from another computer? Does the existing mouse not work in any other computers?
