Question : Problem: New SD Cards can't be read, can't be formatted

I have recently bought two SD cards. When I put either of them in my laptop, I get an error that it is not formatted.  If I choose to format it, I am told that the card cannot be formatted.  What could be the problem?

Other SD cards I already own seem to function just fine.

Card 1: 1GB Kingston SD
Card 2: 1 GB Lexar Platinum II 60x

Laptop: Win XP Home, SP2, Pentium 4, 2.66 GHz

Answer : Problem: New SD Cards can't be read, can't be formatted

Problem solved!  Over the weekend I updated the card reader's drivers... and now it can see the 1GB SD cards.

I wasn't sure that would work, since it seems like the ability to read 1GB card or not read a 1GB card would strictly be a hardware limitation.  And yet it did.
