Question : Problem: Epson Stylus C440 Error message EPIRPE 20

Hi

When we print from MS Office applications such as word, excel etc, it come up with an error message

"EPIRPE 20"  you have performed an illegal operation.  in contacting EPSON they said it could be the system monitor, we have reinstalled the drivers and system monitor from their web site, but it still does not work.

We have also deleted the files in Temp folders in C drive and it still does not work.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Well, you need to completely uninstall the drivers from the system, first with add/remove programs to remove any epson software installed, then remove the printer from the printers list, as well as device manager.  Unplug the printer.  Now in windows/inf and other directories under it, you will see some .INF files relating to the Epson.  Delete them too.  Now you are back to scratch, printer doesn't exist.

So how about, at this stage, arming yourself with the latest 98SE or ME drivers from the internet, and use those to install with?  Download them, expand and have them ready.  Reboot 98, and when the detection happens (plug in printer) force it to look at the new driver location on your hard disk.
