Boy l remember replacing the hinges in my Toshiba; what a pain in the butt.
you are right; the hinges are much more work then you need to do.
The inverter is right bellow the LCD.
The back-light is a florescent tube built-in to the LCD.
To replace/ repair either you'll need to carefully remove the screen bezel. That will give you access to the inverter and the LCD. No other dis-assembly required.
lf It's the same as mine, this the screen is held in by screws on the sides of the screen.
