Question : Problem: raid 5 vs raid 1
We are a online share brokerage company. The oracle database is existing on raid 5 level. The response time has deteriorated these days because of increase in volumes. The application vendor is saying that U move out of raid 5 to raid 1. I wanted to know how much this will be helpful.

If your slow response from Oracle is IO related then moving from RAID 5 to RAID 1 will help LOTS !!!! I have had a performance issues in the past and moved an Oracle database from Raid 5 to Raid 0+1 to achieve optimum performance. This resolved all IO performance problems.
If you move your Oracle database from Raid 5 to Raid 1 (or Raid 0+1) then you can achieve higher performance by correctly placing the underlying datafiles, redo log files, control files and archived redo log files.
