Question : Problem: Monitor has picture then no picture for a long time

I have a gateway FPD1830 Monitor it has an intermittant picture then the screen just gos black. Is it the inverter board I noticed i can get one on ebay

A few thisng that I can possibly say here:

a) If the screen goes black, the power led is green and there is a very feint image on the screen, it's either the power (inverter) board or the back light
b) If the screen is completely black and the power led is green or orange, its most like the inverter board
c) If the monitor has no power or alternating power/flashes on and off (though unlikely in this event) it's the inverter board.

You say that it's intermittent though which points to the inverter board, but my advice is to open the monitor up (assuming it is out of warranty) and check the capacitors as they are known for blowing and attempt a fix rather than spending out money in the first instance in a replacement.

Of course if the monitor is under warranty then just call on that...
