Question : Problem: Reinstall XP but laptop screen broken

I need to reinstall Windows xp on a dell inspiron 5150 but, the screen stopped working about a year ago.  I have been using an external lcd, the catch is I can't see the dell splash screen in order to enter setup and all that.  I can only see things on the external screen once windows starts.  I have been struggling on this for days. Any one who can help me solve this will be my personal hero for life. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

It sounds like your external LCD is either slow in changing to the DEFAULT BIOS video mode, or it is not supported.

I would borrow an old CRT montitor if needed.
