Question : Problem: CAT5E network cable problem
|
|
I have 2 PC with windows XP OS, I have a Belden CAT5E cable 70m long. I have used cross connection to the cables. I'm trying to connect those two PC but to no avail. I also have CAT5E 1m long and I also tried connecting the two PC with this cable and it is working. The two PC have 10/100 NIC card. I even tried straight through connection from switch to the PC with the 70m CAT5E cable but still unsuccessful. Switch is 10/100.
Am I doing something wrong here? Why is it not working?

Answer : Problem: CAT5E network cable problem

70m is quite long and you may have a problem if the network cards are not providing a sufficient output. Normally, long CAT5E cables are for between network infrastructure devices, such as hubs and switches. These are often designed for higher output.
However, the most obvious cause is a fault in the cable.
