some years ago i had an amiga 500 and 2000 and i repaired a lot of them and made modification at the hardware. so i no, that it was necessary to use an extra controller at the port on the left side to connect an external hdd (scsi or/and at). but those wouldn't produced anymore, so i suggest you to write in an magazine for used / second hand computer components. good luck.
