Question : Problem: 3gb maximum ram - what configuration?

I have the Soyo P4X400 Dragon Ultra mobo.

It supports up to 3gb of DDR33 ram (has 3 slots.)

Currently I have two 512 mb in there but I want to upgrade.

CAN i throw in a 2 gig stick in the 3rd slot to make it 3gb all together?  OR is there a maximum of 1gb per slot?  Reason being it would be much cheaper to get the 2gb stick rather than 3 new 1gb sticks.... and I know it wouldn't be the whole dual -channel thing but that's fine - I don't wan this to be a gaming rig - just capable of running Vista smoothly.

Thanks

2gb stick probably won't work. Crucial, kingston, and Corsair will only guarantee 256mb, 512mb, and 1gb sticks to work in the system with a 3gb max. Also from what i have seen from pricing on a 2gb stick of ddr you could buy 3x1gb sticks cheaper.
"As long as your Mobo will support 3gb, it doesn't matter how you accumulate it." This is wrong, most chipsets also have a limit on the size of memory stick they can recognize, in this case it has a 1gb max per stick of ram.
