Question : Problem: X-Fi Fatality to Home Receiver Setup

Hi All,

I'm pretty new to Sound Cards etc. and I'm having a little bit of an issue. I've just installed the Sound Blaster X-FI Fatality(http://www.soundblaster.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=208&product=16559)  and hooked the Optical out on the front panel it comes with.

Now my issue is, when i plug it into my THX Yamaha receiver the computer only outputs on Stereo. And everything I've tried to get it to recognize  my 5.1 setup. Nothing works.

Has anyone had this problem. Is there an easy solution. Am i wrong to use the Optical out on the front panel that comes with the sound card.

Please I'm desperate for help. i've been working on this for weeks and nothing in the setup besides speaker setup. I've set the speaker setup in Windows and Creative Consoule to 5.1 but still only comes out of stereo. The receiver works perfectly in 5.1 with my ps3 and xbox 360.

Suggestions?

Have you tried the rear card connections?  It has coaxial S/PDIF connectors which may work better.  According to the link you provided, the front panel (http://www.soundblaster.com/products/enlarge.asp?product=16559&img=Platinum_fatal1ty_champion_series/pop_IODrive.jpg&alt=) says "Stereo Digital/Analog", which may mean it is limited to stereo - check the manual to be sure.
