Question : Problem: Windows Vista Update caused ATI driver issue, meaning Laptop freezes

I deferred applying the Vista SP1 update and then last week allowed the update service to apply an update (I think it was a cumulatice media centre update). My laptop then began to freeze, and I received a message saying that an ATI driver was causing and issue. After attempting to roll back to a new system restore point, logging into safe mode etc, I applied the SP1 update. Things 'appear to be OK' at the moment, but how can I analyse if a future freeze is likely?

Answer : Problem: Windows Vista Update caused ATI driver issue, meaning Laptop freezes

You can't if you setup automatically update thru Microsoft. You might want updates but setup automatic download and manual install, and that is what I do. Always check or research first before applying update patchs .... to prevent such issue from happening.
