Question : Problem: Convert pdf image to searchable pdf file

I have a Savin 4027 (same as Ricoh 2027) with scanner controller.  The machine is on an ethernet network to Windows XP machines and the machine serves as a network delivery scanner and sends scanned images to shared folders on the PC's using SMB protocol.  The scanner setting is "scan to folder" and it does not use a twain driver for this function but a proprietary "ScanRouter Lite" driver. (A twain driver is available and I use it to run OmniPage Pro).  I have been scanning in documents with "pdf" output selected; the image is viewable with Acrobat (I am using Acrobat 6.0 Standard) but it is not searchable which is not the desired result.  Is it correct that is not searchable because it the image has not gone through an OCR process and therefore can't be searched for terms, etc.?  Is there a software option -- short of trying to use Omnipage for every document -- that will let me use the network delivery scan functions and end up with a searchable pdf? I have looked at some Doculex products and recently at Docu-Track PDF-XChange but just don't have the technical knowledge to know if they will work.  The tech support people at the dealer that sold me the machine get glossy eyes when I try to get answers to this from them.

TIA

Answer : Problem: Convert pdf image to searchable pdf file

You are correct, the reason why you cannot search the document is that it only contains images. Acrobat comes with the "Paper Capture" feature (unfortunately I don't remember if this is available in "Standard"). See if you have the "Paper Capture" menu item in Acrobat's "Document" menu.
You can run all your documents through Paper Capture (which may not be easier than using OmniPage) to OCR them.  With Acrobat 6 Professional you could run a batch process to OCR all documents in a directory (or selected documents, or documents open in Acrobat). Standard does not provide the batch feature.
AFAIK OmniPage Pro has a batch processing mode, so you should be able to do this in OmniPage as well.
If I remember correctly, ScanRouter Professional does offer OCR capabilities, but the Lite version does not.
