Question : Problem: dell mouse problem

i have a dell latitude c510 . the mouse doesnt seem to work. i have a USB wireless mouse but the pointer goes to the right hand corner of the screen , in order t move it i have to hold down the purple mouse ball in the centre and then i can move it using the external mouse. i cant do anything unless i hold the purple ball down. can i turn off the mouse on the keyboard via bios or something to see if the external one works then

does it work in safe mode? then i suggest updating the driver for the mouse / touchpad
