Well, this might seem familiar, but my problem is that in Win XP SP2 I get the message when I click on [Creative] Audio] Console that Device is not recognized [SB X-Fi Audio (8C00)]. Windows CP Sounds shows the device, also in Device Manager, shows no problems [SB X-Fi (WDM)]. I get sound through Windows Sound without error message, but no 5.1 support, & erratic 2.1. Im not even sure at this point what triggered the problem in the 1st place: original mobo was Intel Bad Axe II, which was replaced by the notoriously problematic (with X-Fi) eVGA nVidia N51 based Blackbeard boardbut this also worked fine at first. Dual boot with Vista Ultimate with RC kitNO problem if I boot to Vista.
Possibly the problem started with WinVideo DVD Platinum 6its been too long a problem for me to remember. Ive tried every posted solution suggestedremove all SB programs & applications & reinstall, check only selected devices and everything else suggested other than using Vista drivers on the XP driveVista is on a dedicated internal drivesame result, no 5.1 sound & Creative utilities returns device not detected. Even System Restore to a point before the problem developed did not cure the problem.
Hardware info: SB X-Fi Extreme Music (PCI slot 1), Intel Core 2 Quad 2.67 (original quad), nVidia 8800 GTX, 2 GB Corsair Extreme (1066FSB, 800 functional). IRQ on SB & video card not shared. Internal audio set to Disable in BIOSno drivers other than Creative shown in Device Manager (other than Legacy).
To say any possible solution would be appreciated is dealing in understatement.
