Question : Problem: Sharing a hard drive or JumpDrive between 2 computers...
|
|
Hey guys and gals,
I am a consultant currently working at a client site, and I have to use the client's laptop to access SAP and my laptop to access my company's network, so in other words I must use 2 seperate computers to do my job.
I currently have a Jump Drive (CF card in a CF USB card reader) that I save all of my documents on and physically swap the USB cable every time I want to transport my files to the other computer.
I've been researching ways to make this process a bit easier and what I would like to do is connect the two computers somehow (I can't use a router) by attaching a Jump Drive or external hard drive to both of the computers, and have maybe a usb cable run from the Jump Drive/Hard Drive out to both computers. I looked into USB hubs, but I couldn't figure out a way for this to work.
I have also heard that you can only save to a CF card several thousand times? Is this true? Is it possible that one day my CF card will die and i'll lose my files?
This may not be technically feasible, but what do you guys think? Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks!
-Steve

i have had this probem before and have got myself a usb to usb transfer cable, which are popping aound every where now , with this little device you how up the cable just like a crossover cable
just connect it add the drivers and program to each computer and with in seconds you have access to to a explorer like shell that shows you the entire contents of the computer you want to access , please note their is now security on these cable so dont leave them laying around after completetion
do i recommend one yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it has saved me many times on where i would have a computer that needs drivers that has no internet acccess .its great for workshops and laptop configurations.
heres the program that came with my usb transfer cable

dont buy the one in the picture buy one like this on ebay has them cheaper

please note that by typing "usb transfer" on ebay you get more options on cost and mfg. i dont which is the best , but all use the same program pc link .
hope it helps , also consider one of these , i have never tried them ,but will later try one to see if they work great. give new meaning to the word extra space for cheap.
