Question : Problem: How do I get my Servers to send Syslog messages when failures occur
|
|
Hi I have a dozen or so HP Proliant servers and use Kiwi Syslog Demon for monitorring my network kit. I'd like to use the same system for keeping an eye on any server problems that occur, fan failures or disk failures mostly. There doesn't seem to be a simple option for setting this up. Am I missing something or should I be approaching this in another way. Regards Jo

Because you are new to MIBs, i recommend that you should learn about SNMP protocol, that's the protocol you need.
In short: In a SNMP-enabled system, your HP server must have an piece of software installed, called agent. Yes, the spy. This agent report to headquater- the SNMP server. Then, you, at the HQ, tell the agent what to do with your server. If something happens when you away, SNMP server could email, call, sms.. Depends on your bugdet.
Then have a look at some SNMP server software, like Solarwind, HP OpenView...
