Question : Problem: Hard Drive Cloning

Hey,
I recently bought a new WD 80GB 7200rpm (IDE) hard drive, replacing my old 20GB Maxtor one. I wanna know is how exactly do I use Norton Ghost 2003 to clone everything from the old Maxtor hd to my new WD hd?, so I can set the WD hard drive as the new master drive and boot from that drive. I have already formatted the new HD as a NTFS partition from disk management. Im currently running win2k. Im not planning to use the Maxtor HD anymore for that computer. Thanks.

Answer : Problem: Hard Drive Cloning

Firstly, You must run Ghost from DOS.
Verison 7.5 or greater is needed for NTFS.
Find a bootdisk (Win98 will do), copy Ghost.exe to it and boot to DOS.
As Callandor has said, You need to Copy Disk to Disk (20GB to 80GB).
If done this way Ghost will copy the contents of your 20GB to your 80GB and you will have 1 80GB partition.

STAY AWAY FROM PARTITION MAGIC OR YOU MAY LOSE YOUR DATA!! ITS VERY UNRELIABLE!!

If you can't be bothered starting from scratch again and using Ghost (Although if done correctly Ghost will do a better job), then this is your alternative.......

You can use this to increase your unallocated space SAFELY (I have used it myself without problem)
Just follow the instructions carefully.....

Diskpart from Win2000 Resource kit
