Question : Problem: Sound is not working, Sound card Disabled

Firstly, the sound on my laptop 8600 is not working.  When I go into the control panel and go to sound and audio devices everything, all of the buttons and sliders are greyed-out.  The LCD on my screen went out last week and in trying to troubleshoot the problem I believe I may have disabled the sound in the  system setup (ie. F2 during startup).  I am running my laptop off of a CRT now though and the display does not show up until windows begins to boot, which is past going into system setup again.  I am sick of the  annoying beep every time there is an error and would like my sound back.  What can I do to reload my sound.

Thanks,

Artie

Also meant to tell you.
If you upgrade your BIOS, you will probably reset all these settings to the original default.

Go to Dell's support website.
Go to Downloads for Drivers, Enter you Service Tag, and Look for the BIOS section.
It will probably create a floppy disk for you to boot to, or an EXE file to execute.

This will probably work, and it will get you up to date too.
