Question : Problem: Enable on-board video vard for dual monitor support

I'm trying to set up dual monitor support on my HP Compaq DC7700 using two video cards: the onboard graphics, and an installed PCI video card.

I installed a PCI video card, ATI x1300 256 MB, and it works great, but the moment I installed it, the on-board VGA output stopped displaying.

I know it is possible to have the on-board card working simultaneously on this system because my office mate with the same system pulled it off. He says he changed something in the BIOS so that the on-board graphics wouldn't be disabled but he doesn't remember what. I've looked through all the setting and haven't found anything that works.

Any ideas?

Answer : Problem: Enable on-board video vard for dual monitor support

There should be a setting within the BIOS that specifies what the system should use if there is an external video card installed. By default, the on-board video will be disabled when a video card is inserted. Is your work mate using the same computer model? Some systems will not allow you to run both the onboard video and installed video card at the same time - so different strokes for different systems.

As far as I know, most BIOS do have an entry on how to handle the onboard video in the event a video card is installed.
