So your current video card supports two outputs...either vga (dsub) or DVI (which automatically looks at resolution among other things)
The problem is you don't have another video adapter. You need to have another adapter to have another display. You will have to go buy one, or find one, or borrow one and install it correctly with the drivers (maybe xp will have the driver). Important note is to get a card that supports the resolution of your display (the DEFAULT resolution) if not, your panel will look not so good.
But Wait, you say your motherboard has a video out onboard!!! Well, I have not seen a setup that allows both onboard and external video to work at the same time. I am not saying this isn't possible though, just that I haven't seen it and since you are in a rush not to bother with it.
So your steps:
1.Check your displays default resolution, you can do this by googling the model number and going to the support pages, or look at the manual.
2. Once you know your default resolution, find a display adapter either online or at your local merchant that supports the display properly AND will fit into your case/motherboard/ AND is supported by your operating system.
3. Follow instructions manufacturer gives for display adapter.
4. Extend the correctly functioning adapter/display combo to your OS.
One last thing, some people might say to get the exact same video card if possible, I think it is more important to get one that will have same default resolution and runs properly with your OS, Xp should handle the rest OK.
