Question : Problem: HP LaserJet 3380 only prints in Windows Vista, scanning does not work.

I have an HP LaserJet 3380 all-in-one printer which works just fine in Windows XP. Unfortunately I now work on Windows Vista (32bit) and now I can only use the print function.

The HP website (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=378062&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=378060&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=2093) states:
"HP LaserJet and Color LaserJet products - products supported and drivers included in Microsoft Windows Vista".

Also Microsoft says this product has to work properly (http://www.microsoft.com.nsatc.net/windows/compatibility/Details.aspx?type=Hardware&p=LaserJet%203380%2019ppm%201200x1200dpi%20Print%2FCopy%2FScan%2FFax&v=HP&uid=Q2660AABA&pf=8&pi=4&c=Printers%20%26%20Scanners&sc=Multifunction&os=32-bit)

Can anyone help me with this problem?

Ps. This is my first question here, so if I forget to mention something important please let me know and I will add the info as soon as possible. Also I have no idea if this is a difficult question for you, so I'm not sure if the assigned points are ok.

Thanks in advance.

Answer : Problem: HP LaserJet 3380 only prints in Windows Vista, scanning does not work.

Here's what you're running into - this is already considered an "older" aio, which means HP is not going to go back and develop the full software suite for Vista.

Your choices are:

Use the Windows Fax and Scan feature that comes with Vista Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/features/fax-scan.aspx

If you have Vista Home or Basic, or if the Fax and Scan feature doesn't work, then essentially you are out of luck.  You now have a printer, not an all-in-one.

Suggested solution - buy a new all-in-one that is fully Vista compatible.

I know that is not an answer you're going to want to hear, but that's the way it is.  Manufacturers (and it is not just HP, there are plenty of others) are not going back and developing Vista drivers for past produced models.  The 3380 was first manufactured in 2004, so it is considered too old to bother writing new Vista compatible software.  They are using Vista compatibility as an excuse to attempt to force you to go buy a new unit.
